Publisher Class

I learned a lot tonight, and we finished in our three hours.  However, we didn't cover as much as we should have in order to complete our text book work in the 9 hours planned for the course.

I did learn how to put a box around the text, and it's wonderfully simple, once you know the way to do it.  I'm eager to apply my learning to the newsletter pages I'm working on.  But now, I'm running low on time.

Tomorrow we are taking the 55 Alive driving class.  It goes from 8:30 to 12:30!  That's a long time!  And it's not over then.  It meets again on Wednesday morning.  I'm already really tired just thinking about it.  And my final Publishing class takes place again tomorrow night, 6-9.  I'm going on serious overload here, but I'll learn as much as I can.  I'll tax my brain, for sure!

    What's the 55 Alive class?

I admire you for taking these classes, NJ. You obviously enjoy them, as tiring as they can be, and it's especially nice that you have a use for your new skills right away through the newsletters. Kind of makes it feel really worthwhile, aside from just the pleasure of learning something new.

    Have a good one tomorrow!

55 Alive is a refresher course on driving. They show you some films or slides, there's a work book to read, you answer questions and discuss answers. It's offered to people over 55 to remind them of the importance of keeping driving skills honed and keeps seniors informed about changes in the driving laws. The big deal is that people who take the course get a discount on their insurance cost. You have to take the course every three years to keep the discount current. Many people have been leery of taking the course because they think they will fail, or that their eyes will be tested and they won't pass that. But the books are never collected, you correct your own and you learn from the discussion. And there is no eye test at these classes. This will be our fourth time to take this course. We missed seeing where it was being held the last two years, so we haven't been getting the discount for a while. (See how old we've become?)

Now that is a fantastic idea -- everyone benefits. I wish there was a similar course here and I wonder why there isn't?

Now I've learned that it's no longer called 55 Alive because they offer it to people 50 and older. It's something about Safe Driving. Same course, same books. Maybe some day they will offer it to people over 40. Not a bad idea, really.
