Late Night

I've been paying attention to what's been going on in baseball for the last several weeks but haven't been watching the games.  I decided that last night would probably be an historical event and maybe I should watch it.  After I got home from choir and checked my e-mail, I turned on the game.  It was the bottom of the 5th so I still had lots of game to watch.

I also watched the lunar eclipse from time to time.  Both were very interesting, but the game was more exciting.

On the way to choir at 7, I drove with that gorgeous full moon hanging in the sky ahead of me.  Oh, it was a sight!  When I see the moon, I think of my dad.  He was always interested in seeing what the moon looked like.  He would have enjoyed seeing the eclipse.  He would also have enjoyed watching the ballgame.

It was very late when I got to bed.

We watched the baseball game and the eclipse too. Though we didn't make it to the end of either. It was a lovely eclipse, reminding me of the last one when we were camped on a dark hillside just to watch it. The clouds mostly spoiled that one, but the conversation with good friends was great.

If I'd had to be at work this morning at 8, I wouldn't have stayed up so late. But since I didn't have to be at work, I could enjoy it to the end.

Doesn't it make you wonder what early man thought when he saw the lunar eclipse?

I've read that primitive peoples often thought natural phenomena of this nature were signs of God's displeasure and they were afraid. They were very much aware of nature happenings and could predict the routine but not so much the things like eclipses. Astronomy has opened so much knowledge to us since those primitive times.

I watched it all the way into town, and all the way home last night and the thought of what the first creatures thought was in my head the whole time. I love nature and all of its wonders. Really puts you in your place. We are nothing but a piss-ant in the grand scheme of things.

Hi, Mary Lou. It makes me think of what David said to God in a Psalm. "What is man that Thou art mindful of him?" We really are little, and yet so privileged!
