Harvest

Today I picked the first of my ripe tomatoes.  Eight of my grape tomatoes were ripe!  They are big for grape tomatoes, but, of course small for regular tomatoes.  Tonight I ate just one of them, with a sprinkle of salt.  It was all that it was supposed to be.  And the best part is that there are many more ripening out there still.  Don't you just love ripe tomatoes fresh from your own little patch!!!

Next year I am definitely going to grow my own for the first time. So many friends, family, and neighbours have all their own tomatoes, ripening away on their decks or patios. I'm so jealous!

My neighbour brought us over one of his yellow tomatoes (I forget what it was called). It was one of the sweetest I'd ever tasted. Delicious.

I was going to say my tomato was delicious, but then, you know, that's the name of an apple.

If you have good friends who will share fresh tomatoes with you, you're all set! Growing your own can be disappointing. You wait so long to get a tomato and then in a week or two, they are all ripe at once and you have a glut for a couple of weeks and then it's over. Sometimes weather conditions don't permit a good crop. But when it all comes together, it's pretty wonderful!

I think this is the earliest I've had ripe tomatoes. That grape tomato plant was pretty big when I bought it.
