Morning Light
The morning light is dim and gray today. I could see a cardinal at the bird feeder but I only knew it was a cardinal because of its size and crested head. I could discern faintly a tinge of red but the bird looked more gray than red. There's heavy cloud cover this morning.
Yesterday morning when I walked around to the back of the building checking to see what kinds of cars were parked there, I did not see the beautiful black Jag.
I'm very glad to be able to be home this morning and not getting ready to go to Erie.

at 7/22/2004 8:29:55 PM- That's my next project, -to try to find some identifying marks on the birds on my feeder and learn who they are. This bird book I read was mostly about how to attract them but has some good pointers, like "listen to their song, and their alarm cry," but so far, I haven't fully deciphered that. The only black birds I know are grackles, and starlings, but you probably know them, too. And crows. When you find out, let me know, please.

As of yesterday, I've had a small group of black birds (about the size of a robin) who sound like gophers (high-pitched, shrill squeak) as well as like a budgie. Do you have any idea what they are?
