Our Bread

Four Loaves of Home Made Bread

I was truly impressed with the results of our bread making yesterday. My friend wanted to learn to bake bread. We made two loaves of bread a couple of weeks ago in my kitchen and she was surprised at how easy it is to do. Patsy's friend, Pat, used five pounds of flour and made seven loaves of bread at a time. But Pat always talked as though it was a really difficult process to make bread and she would teach her but it would be hard for my friend to learn it. But she died before they got to the lesson.

After our initial bread making foray, my friend wanted to make four loaves of bread in her own kitchen. I took the yeast and my three bread pans to her place. She had one pan of her own.

When I left, my friend took a loaf of bread to Pat's husband, Dick. He was really happy to get the homemade bread. He gave her three of his wife's bread pans, so now she doesn't really have to buy bread pans, or borrow mine. She can bake bread on her own.

I love being a teacher when the results turn out like this!

I had a bread machine and I used it quite a bit, but then my house was too cold for the yeast to proof, even in the bread maker, so I quit. I KNEAD (HAR HAR) to go back to making it by hand again. I LOVE fresh homemade bread!

Our bread was so good. My friend can hardly wait to make more. She know has the two lessons, the yeast, the bread pans and the other ingredients. She doesn't need (knead! haha) my help. I think that as soon as her last loaf is almost gone, there will be more bread dough rising in her big bowl. What a feeling of accomplishment it gives a person to do something like this on their own.

I can smell it clear over here!
I cannot make bread. If I did then I would eat the entire loaf still warm with cold butter on it!!

Phyllis, there is such an allure to home made bread, especiall when it's fresh from the oven, that seems to be even more than food. There is a comfort to it. Thanks for coming here.
