Baking Day
For many years I considered Saturday to be a baking day. I could
bake any day of the week and I did, but Saturday was a day when I
always baked. I'd make something to have on hand for Sunday
dessert, and/or I'd bake something for a snack for the Sunday school
class. When my husband was diagnosed with diabetes, I had
to cut back on baking because it wasn't good for him to eat those
sweets. I got out of the habit of baking on Saturdays.
Today I had a reason to bake again. At first I felt the tug of
inertia. I just didn't feel like starting to bake, but I had told
myself all week that I was going to bake on Saturday. So I got
out my big bowl with the blue stripes and filled it up with dough for
cinnamon rolls. Once I got started, the enjoyment of baking came
back to me.
One part of the dough I made into a pan of rolls and the other part I
shaped into a tea ring. They came out as close to perfect as I
could ask! And I'm the only one here to enjoy them, --but,
tomorrow I'll be having company again.
While the dough was rising the second time, I started making blueberry
pies. I work so slowly, but I eventually got the crust made and
the pies ready to go into the oven as the tea ring was done.
I haven't tasted the pie, so I don't know if they are as good as
they look or not. I think they will be.
It felt good to be baking again.
