More Forgotten Items
There were other things I found salted away in the closet
yesterday. One was a Christmas centerpiece that Mom gave me a
long time ago, before she moved to the nursing home. It had been
a floral arrangement but was still a lovely Christmas arrangement when
the flowers were dead and gone. I put it in a plastic bag and put
it up on a high shelf in the closet and forgot about it.
Another thing I found was the little white duck flower pot that I'd put
into the a box with some other knick knacks. I'd packed them away
because I was out of space to let them sit around in the house and they
are definitely too much too keep dusting. But they are things I
really value and wish I could display all the time. Most of them
were elephants from my collection. The duck was a gift from my
childhood friend, Nancy Pearl. She gave it to me with a little
plant in it during one of my childhood illnesses. I've long
forgotten which illness, --chicken pox, mumps, measles. I had
them all and measles more than once. The little duck was cute,
but it was too small for a growing plant. I used to have it out
on some piece of furniture and just drop little odds and ends into it,
--like stray paper clips or pins. It was nice to see it again.
And I found some newspapers! Why did I keep some
newspapers? It was obviously something I'd done. I checked
the newspapers and found that they were ones with one of my Christmas
stories on the front page. Ah, that's why I didn't toss
them. Well, as long as I haven't pitched them so far, maybe I
should keep them a while longer. I can let my kids throw
them away some day. They don't take up much room. I think some
people gave me their newspapers. I'm pretty sure I didn't go out
and buy three more.
