Sean Decides About Ketchup
In 1995 when our twins were 7, they stayed with me for their summer
vacation. We had sandwiches one day for lunch. Lyn put ketchup on his
sandwich. I found a packet of ketchup from Dairy Queen in the
refrigerator and cut it open to put in on Sean's sandwich. Sean said,
"Corry Grandma, I didn't say that I wanted ketchup on my sandwich." I
said, "Ok, you don'thave to have ketchup." I pulled the ketchup packet
away. Sean said, "But, I didn't say I don't want Ketchup." This
confused me. "Well, ok. This is a special packet of ketchup and I cut
it open already." Sean, "But I didn't say I wanted ketchup."
I got impatient and opened Lyn's sandwich and squirted the ketchup on
it. Sean, "But, I didn't say I didn't want ketchup." Me, "Fine. Put
ketchup on your sandwich. It's OK. Just use the bottled ketchup."
Sean, "But, I didn't say that I want ketchup." This put me on overload
and I didn't know whether to put ketchup on his sandwich or not. I
gave up and ate my lunch. Sean sat there for a long time looking at his
sandwich and thinking. In the end, I failed to notice whether he put
ketchup on his sandwich or not.
His dad got a good laugh from this story when I told him in 1995 and he
also got a laugh from it when I told him about it again today.
