Faded Jade

I've had a jade plant for many years.  It sits in a big, big flower pot on the floor in the front bedroom.  I've pinched it back many times, to make it branch out.  I've had to put it in a bigger pot.

This week I discovered the lower part of the jade plant is, ---how to describe it?  The lower stems are just shells!  They have no substance!  I don't know what happened to it.  I've cut off the upper branches that are still solid.  Usually the jade plants roots rather easily.  I shall get new soil in the pot and see if I can get the healthy branches rooted.  If it doesn't work, it's the end of the line for the faded jade.

My 6 yr old son went to the Base Exchange with his Dad and came back with a little tiny jade tree sprout. COst him his entire pocket of money...50 cents, SO I planted it in a pretty pot and had it for YEARS. (he is 34) it grew leggy, and I would pinch it back, it would drop leaves and I would root them, and finally on this last move from Nevada back here, it got too cold or too hot, not sure which, but it went into shock and dried up. I managed to salvage it, but it is just a ghost of its former self. I am babying it along though.

Interesting, Mary Lou. I don't remember where I got my jade plant in the first place. I had another cactus plant (sort of shaped like a barrel cactus) that my mom gave my daughter when she was little that I had for years like you had your jade plant and something happened to it that it just got funny in its old age, maybe two summers ago. I have one little baby from it that I'm hoping will grow big and strong. They don't really grow fast.
