Procrastination

I read a long while ago that the most usual reason for procrastination in doing a job is that you don't feel confident that you know how to do it well.  I have thought about this from time to time and I've discovered that in many instances, it's true.  If I knew just how to do the job, I would do it and get it over with.

But some of my procrastination is that some jobs take too much effort and I'm tired.  Would either of these explain why I haven't sewn the seam that came undone in my skirt?  There's no reasonable excuse.  I just haven't done it.

Maybe soon.

I talked a little about this on my blog. I find there are usually two reasons why I procrastinate. I find the job distasteful, and/or I am a perfectionist regarding some tasks, and I've waited too long to do the task "right," so I put it off.

I think for me, I need to be in the right frame of mind to approach each task except when it comes to my day job: I get the most distasteful things done first so they don't ruin the rest of the day, lurking in the background, waggling their fingers at me.

    Wow. Talk about a run-on sentence. ; )

Frame of mind must have something to do with some things that I put off. Some things that I can't do in the evening are easy to do the next morning. That must be frame of mind. But quite often, I put off the job because I think I don't know how to do it. This is especially true in art work. Lorraine, I read your blog before I wrote mine, and it reminded me that I'd been thinking about mentioning what I'd been thinking of writing about procrastination. There probably isn't a simple answer about the cause of procrastination.
