The Door

We have a door in our dining room that opened onto the back porch.  At one point my husband installed a deadbolt lock on this door and we locked it that way.  Then he removed the porch and put a temporary cap on the foundation under it.  It was impossible to use the door and we just kept it locked and unused.  Today I unlocked the door and we were able to walk out onto the new porch floor.  It felt wonderful to be able to do that.  Desy and Rusty were very excited. They had no idea that was a door that would open. They were as interested in what was happening at the door as any one of us.  The only trouble is, now Rusty has another door to look out of to see if Button is out there.  He never knew that was possible before.

I know you'll be so glad when the porch is completed. Is this going to be an open porch or screened? You may have written about it, and I missed it.

Your yard sounds lovely - I was trying to catch up on my reading - it seems you have so many plantings of flowers and such. That must take up a lot of your time. I try to get my yard work done in the mornings since my work hours are now noon-4:30. When I get home, I'm too "pooped" to do much!!

It's an open porch but that part of house hadn't been sided with the vinyl, and that involves tearing off the old shingles and bad wood and getting it sided, so it's a good sized job. It is exciting to see the work progress.

I don't have formal flower beds. They aren't disciplined at all. It's hard to keep up with the weeding and I have a problem with pulling up and discarding healthy plants so they look crowded in together. But they are bright splotches of color and they have beauty, too.

I think I get as much enjoyment from watching Bilbo discover new things that make him happy as I do for myself. How exciting that the work is progressing and the door is usable.

    Happy Friday, NJ :)
