Winter Was Hard

My back door neighbor and I were talking today about our flower beds and the effects of winter.  We've decided it really was a hard winter because we have lost so many plants.  She keeps better track of her "inventory" than I do and she said she only has 40 of something that made it through the winter, whereas last year, she had about 100 of them.  And do you think I can remember which plant it was that she was talking about!!

I have very few columbine coming up this spring, and lupine is a little scarce, too.  Even the Shastas are fewer this spring.  I thought they were especially hardy.

It's getting colder again this evening and I hear it's gearing up for another snow this weekend.  We were so spoiled here for almost a week now.  I thought about putting the winter coat out.  But, I'm rethinking that plan now.

I was just nosying around seeing what's up with ya! I haven't been around in a while. I loved your story about finding out what the man was doing at the vacant house. I don't like to think of myself as nosy, but, heck I know I am. My mom was too, so we'll just call it a genetics thing. I love Shastas if they are what I'm thinking of - aren't they the same as Gerberer, or, maybe similar. I need to get out in my yard and get some work done, hopefully this weekend. Yeah, you better hold on to your coat for a while Nancy.

Shastas are perennials and Gerbers are annuals. Shastas are white. Gerbers can be other colors. Shastas can be about three feet tall. The Gerbers that I've had are much smaller. Other than these differences, I think they are rather similar. They are daisies. Nice to see you again.

I tend to have a lot of curiosity, but I also tend to miss a lot of what's going on right around me.
