A Missed Chance

Yesterday afternoon turned out to be really beautiful and warm enough that I could have worked to repot the nasty but beautiful Spike. But I hadn't expected such nice weather and I was unprepared.  I did other chores, indoors, and got back to oil painting again.

(A digression: The more time I spend oil painting, the more I enjoy doing it.)

When I do repot Spike, I must use heavier gloves than I used last time, and I must wear them on both hands.  Maybe I'll get to do it today.

You will have more spring days. Winter can't last forever. Have you had three snows on the daffodils yet?

Wear leather gloves. They stop most cactus spines pretty well. When I was working with some prickley pear cactus I wore heavy leather and didn't get a spine at all, till I took off the gloves and touched the outside of the glove with my bare hand. The gloves were like porcupines!

Spike is a great name for a cactus. The only Spike I know is the ginormous bull elephant at our zoo (which also suits him).

What painting are you working on these days?

Last night I was working on a painting I did long ago and thought I could now improve on it. My husband thought I should let the old things go and do new things. He was probably right. I may be wasting my time on the old painting. I should move on to something new. I will soon. But I'll plug away on this old one a little longer. I may be doing it some good after all.

John, the snow has just now melted from when it came in February, so the daffodils have just started to emerge from the ground. So we have to look for three more snows yet, but they won't be (I hope)deep snows that last for days. I'm home from Aquarobics, and a bit of shopping, and the weather is wonderful today! Good advice about the leather gloves.

What is this thing with three snows on the daffodils? Gads if we waited then spring may never come. It hardly ever snows here. COLD but no snow.

Yes, it's a saying about our "snow belt" area, which unfortunately does turn out to be true. We will have at least three more snows but usually it's just a dusting, enough to lay a little. The daffodils are starting to grow now, so we're on our way to good weather, soon.
