Leave Them Wanting More

My mom and dad used to sing duets in church when I was a girl.  My dad never wanted to sing all the stanzas of the song because, he would say, "You don't want to over do it. You want to leave them wanting more."

That's what I'm hearing about Johnny Carson this morning, --that he knew when to quit. He knew how to leave them wanting more.

I have never been a fan of late night television but I know about Johnny and his reputation for humor and his sense of timing.  I add my condolences to his family and friends.  We were all sorry to learn that he died yesterday morning.

The loss of Johnny Carson is a big one, I agree. And it's interesting that you mention your dad and singing in the same short blog entry. My dad watched the Late Show every night and sometimes we stayed up to watch with him. We also sang together as a family in front of church... mom, dad and the 3 of us girls. It was such a special time (covering probably 15 years) and I think back on it often.

It sounds like a lot of very good memories. I don't recall singing with my parents as special music, but Dad and I played organ and piano together and really enjoyed it.

That is wonderful... there's nothing quite like sharing music, the making of music, with family.
