TV or Not TV

I read in the Erie morning paper that Garrison Keilor said that except for ball games, he hasn't watched TV for 20 years.  That's astonishing.  I wonder if that's how he can be so creative.  He's kept his own mind freed up to continually develop his make-believe town and its people.  I've got to think about this.

I think this is amazing too. I wonder if he gets his news from the newspaper, radio and internet. When I was very young and starting out my little TV broke and I couldn't afford to fix it. I was without a television for over a year. I did not miss it at all. My former next door neighbors (they had 7 girls) had a little TV that they did not keep out all the time. They only plugged it in and watched it when the parents felt that the program was of merit. The mother homeschooled all the children. They were the nicest family I've ever the pleasure of living next to and took an active role in the community. Everyone one of those girls were mannerly and good conversationalists.

We can certainly overdo the TV watching if we aren't disciplined. As for Garrison, I think he must get his news from radio, because he's such a radio person. However, he may do computer stuff, too. He's well informed on current events.
